Rope Fenders

Fender Loft rope fenders are hand knotted with the finest quality cotton rope, in the marlinspike tradition, using half hitch or crown braid construction. They feature a water-repellent polyfoam core for cushioning and buoyancy, and a small hollow center for drainage. The design gives excellent protection to your boat while also preventing mildew and rot.

Our fenders can always be made to fit—they’re the only ones available with adjustable lanyards. To change the length, you untie the stopper knot at the bottom, shorten or lengthen the lanyard as needed, retie the knot and tuck the loose end back inside the hollow center of the fender. Simple!

Traditional

The traditional straight fenders hung over the sides of the boat. Essential in all mooring situations. Hung with pride by wooden boat owners, acknowledged as historically accurate by show judges, and looked on with appreciation by audiences. Whether you exhibit at antique boat shows or simply love nautical knotwork, these are the ones to get.

Sizing them to your boat is straightforward, here’s how you can do it:

1. Measure from fender cleat to waterline.
2. Subtract 3” above the waterline.
3. Decide length of lanyard.
4. Balance = fender length.

Consider the length and size of your boat to determine the best diameter and proportion. You may choose the same fender length throughout or stagger them fore-to-aft.

The following are our standard sizes, we do try to keep these in stock. Other lengths and diameters can readily be made by custom order.

Dispro

The Disappearing Propeller Boat, a.k.a. Dis-Pro or Dippy, is a craft of enduring beauty and historical significance. These boats may tragically be damaged if their low gunwales are allowed to slip under the edge of a dock. Our contoured Dispro fenders extend 6” above the gunwale and are secured in place with unique side lanyards. This arrangement gives superior protection to Dispros and similar small boats. 17” or 18” long overall, 4” diameter.
